A day after announcing his retention as Nottingham Forest manager, Steve Cooper appeared in a press conference with a motivational speech.
Steve Cooper began by talking about his relationship with Evangelos Marinakis, which he described as “normal”.
“The club was unhappy with some of the things written in the nights before games and wanted to put a stop to it. I didn’t mind – if that’s the case, you shouldn’t be in this business.
“None of us are safe. I talk to the owner a lot. The fact that we had to take points and win games didn’t need to be mentioned in a statement.
“The conversations are private, but all I can say is that the amount of communication I have had with Mr Marinakis has been pretty normal.”
He went on to talk about the club’s future in the Premier League, assuring that the club must have confidence in what it is doing and build on it.
“The key now is to be convinced,” Cooper added. We have built it over the last 18 months and this is the most important thing we have done.
“We have to believe in the way we play and in our ability. This is the time to show it. It’s always been a tough season, there’s no hiding from that. Now we’re getting to the part of the season where we’re even more focused.
“We want to be in this league and we have to play a lot better than we did at Leeds. We have to commit now and believe in what we are doing.
“We are fighting with a great group. It’s not just three, four or five teams. We have to support each other to get to the top of this group.”
