Nottingham Forest are keen to recruit a new goalkeeper this summer and are considering AC Monza keeper Michele Di Gregorio.
With one more day of Premier League action to go against Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park on Saturday, Nottingham Forest can feel they have already done the job. Steve Cooper’s side secured their place in the Premier League for next season with a dramatic win over Arsenal at the City Ground on Saturday. The aim now will be to finish the season in the best possible way against the Eagles and then prepare the team for next season, with the summer transfer window looming.
One of the priority targets for Forest will be to find a new goalkeeper. The position has been a real headache for Steve Cooper all season. The club thought they had found their first-choice Premier League goalkeeper with the arrival of Dean Henderson on loan from Manchester United. Wayne Hennessey also arrived on loan from Burnley to act as a back-up to the England international. However, Dean Henderson suffered a serious injury at the beginning of January when his performances were more than promising. Nottingham Forest then had to spend the whole of January looking for an available keeper on the market and miraculously managed to secure the loan of PSG’s Costa Rican goalkeeper Keylor Navas.
The goalkeeper has put in some great performances since his arrival but is not expected to stay next season. Once his loan is over, he is expected to return to PSG, according to The Telegraph. The priority at goalkeeper is expected to be Dean Henderson, who Nottingham Forest will try to sign on a permanent basis. However, the club also have another option in the position, and are considering AC Monza’s Italian goalkeeper Michele Di Gregorio.
The 25-year-old Inter Milan-trained goalkeeper has impressed this season and has been a big part of Monza’s fine season, which saw them promoted to Serie A last summer. He has played 35 games, conceding 43 goals and getting 10 clean sheets, making him the fifth goalkeeper with the most clean sheets this season in Serie A, tied with Udinese Calcio goalkeeper Marco Silvestri and Torino FC keeper Vanja Milinkovic-Savic.
According to reliable Italian journalist Gianluca Di Marzio, Nottingham Forest are interested in the 25-year-old goalkeeper and are considering starting negotiations with Monza to sign him. He could be a cheaper option than Dean Henderson, whose deal could reach £30m. According to the website Transfermarkt, Michele Di Gregorio is valued at around £6m and has a contract that runs until June 2025 with AC Monza.
